Never look back, Darling. It distracts from the now.

If you are over the age of 10, you have a past. You have those moments when you recollect on bad choices-whether in relationships, jobs, or finances and get that burning feeling in your chest. What was I thinking? Some people can see the wisdom in the bad choices and make a pact with themselves to never do it again. Others wallow in the bad decision, don’t learn the lesson, then find themselves back at square one.

My kids have watched “The Incredibles” since Sunday probably 7 times. I have no idea why they have to marathon every good movie we show them. But because it’s been on in the background music of my house, I have relished in the great quotes of the movie. Bob (Mr. Incredible) is supposed to be in the witness relocation program because Supers are not supposed to exist. He still is moonlighting as a superhero at night. He gets a gig to work through some mysterious company and has ripped his super-suit, because he is not the same size from the glory days. He comes to Edna Mode to patch his suit. The suit that once was her classic fabulous design she sees as garbage (and throws it away). She wants to make him something new. “I never look back, Darling. It distracts from the now.”

I immediately thought about God’s plan for our lives. We always whine and complain about how bad things used to be and we can’t get over it. There are also some good things that happen to us that God is now over. He wants to do something new in your life. He wants to give you more. He wants to blow your mind. You do deserve to be happy. You do deserve to smile again. You cannot focus on the now, if you are stewing on the glory days/bad days of the past.
